Weekend links: New pressure on media, and why tech can't be blamed for everything

It's probably a sign of the times that three, maybe four, of this week's links are about the media industry and the new challenges that generative AI will mean to media businesses. I have a lot of thoughts around this, but for now I'll just share the links as they are:

Cory Doctorow's piece in Financial Times is somewhat about the same topic: ‘Enshittification’ is coming for absolutely everything.

Also worth reading is a text on AI and law and one about open source models.

But the most important thing I read over the last week is this, by danah boyd:

The problem is not: “Technology causes harm.” The problem is: “We live in an unhealthy society where our most vulnerable populations are su1ering because we don’t invest in resilience or build social safety nets.”
